What I like
- Light in the late afternoon
- Photos where nobody is posing
- Baking cinnamon rolls, even when they come out lopsided
- Riding my bike in the morning before everyone is up
- Swimming in the lake in summer
- Everything looks different under a microscope
- A playlist for every mood
- People who can handle a pause in a conversation
What I don't
- Talking behind people's backs
- Photos of me without asking
- Trends everyone has to join
- Loud groups where nobody listens
- When someone says biology is an easy subject
- Sticking to what you said, even when it was wrong
- Rushing in the morning
- When Liv is sad and doesn't say so
Typical Mila
- Listens before she says anything
- Always asks before she takes someone's picture
- Tucks a strand of hair behind her ear when she's thinking
- Notices things everyone else misses
- Writes in her journal at night, even if it's three words
- Is surprisingly funny once she knows you
- Takes the long way if it's prettier
- Explains biology so it suddenly makes sense
Mila is the one at a party who stands at the edge and still catches everything. She listens before she speaks, and when she does say something, it's often the one thing nobody else thought of. She bought her camera secondhand. She photographs light, shadows and moments when nobody is posing, and she always asks before she puts someone in the picture.
She's good at biology, really good, and she loves it when something under the microscope suddenly looks completely different. At home there's a golden retriever who loves everyone, even people Mila hasn't figured out yet. Since the tenth-grade exhibition, Leo has been part of the picture. What exactly that means, she doesn't know yet herself.
Can I take a picture?
