Characters

People with rough edges and stories of their own.

Meet Nora and Alex. A couple and best friends who have known each other for years and still do not always understand each other.

Some people talk before they think. Others think for so long they almost forget to say anything.

Nora and Alex could hardly be more different in some ways. Still, they have been friends since childhood. They know each other's families, the small habits and the stories nobody else laughs at any more.

But the older they get, the more often they notice: knowing someone for a long time does not mean always knowing what is going on inside them.

This is Nora and Alex.

Nora in her father's waxed jacket, hands in the pockets

Nora, 17

A head full of ideas. And a heart that sometimes decides faster.

Nora likes to talk. She has an opinion on many things and usually the courage to say it. She is loyal, curious and often the first to do something. When somebody needs help, she says yes quickly. Sometimes too quickly.

Because while Nora tries to be there for everyone, she occasionally forgets what she herself wants. And when it all gets too much? She goes running. Until her thoughts quieten down again.

Alex in his dark gray field jacket, one hand in the pocket

Alex, 18

Quieter than Nora. But nowhere near as uncomplicated as he looks.

Alex listens first. He observes, thinks and usually only speaks when he knows what he wants to say. He fixes bikes, stays calm when others get nervous and is someone you can rely on.

His helpfulness has one catch: Alex sometimes tries to solve problems for others before asking whether they want his help. He means well. That does not mean he is always right.

Nora and Alex

A couple. Best friends. Not copies.

Nora talks. Alex listens. Nora makes a plan. Alex thinks about what could go wrong with it. Nora thinks you sometimes just have to take a chance. Alex would at least like to know what he is getting into first.

Most of the time they complement each other rather well. And sometimes that is exactly why they clash.

They have known each other since the first day of school. They know when the other is in a bad mood, which topics not to bring up at dinner and how much an unspoken apology can be worth. Still, their friendship is changing.

They are a couple and best friends. While they figure out who they want to be, they have to learn not to pin the other down to who they have always been. How the two fit together is what the stories tell.

Six moments. Two personalities.

Sometimes a moment says more than a long description. A walk to school. A disagreement. An umbrella with not quite enough room underneath.

Back to back. She's too short, he's too tall, they both say.

Nobody is always right.

Not Nora. Not Alex. And not us either. At ELSEWISE we tell stories from different points of view. You can like the characters and still disagree with their decisions. Maybe you would act completely differently. That is exactly the point.
